Los Santos can feel much easier to manage once you know how to use the phone properly. It is not just there for story calls; it also gives you quick access to emergency services, contacts, and useful number sequences. If you are setting up a fresh character through GTA 5 Accounts, learning this control early will save time. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, tap Up on the D-pad. On PC, press the Up Arrow key. The phone should appear straight away.

Getting to the dial pad

When the phone opens, you will see its app screen. Move across to Contacts with the D-pad, analogue stick, or mouse. Do not select a person yet. While the Contacts screen is open, press Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox, or Space on PC. The display will switch to a number pad. This small step is easy to miss, especially if you are used to choosing names from the list. Once you see the keypad, you are ready to enter digits by hand.

Calling emergency services

Try 911 if you want to test the system. Enter the three digits, then press the same key used to open the keypad: Square, X, or Space, depending on your platform. An operator will answer and show a short menu in the upper-left corner. You can request the police, fire department, or paramedics. The response is not always instant, so give the selected service a moment to reach your location. Calling from a quiet street is often easier than trying it during a crowded shootout.

Platform controls at a glance

PlayStation 5 - Up opens the phone; Square opens the keypad and places the call. Xbox Series X|S - Up opens the phone; X handles the keypad and call. PC - Up Arrow opens the phone; Space opens the keypad and confirms the call. On PC, you can usually type the digits directly, while console players move around the keypad with the controller. If a press seems unresponsive, wait for the phone animation to finish before trying again.

Using other number sequences

The dial pad also accepts special sequences, many beginning with 1-999. These can trigger playful changes, call unusual contacts, adjust the weather, or provide temporary character effects. It is worth keeping a small note of the numbers you use most, since opening the phone repeatedly can interrupt the flow of a mission. Players browsing GTA 5 Accounts for sale may also want to check these controls before starting online activities, because a few seconds saved here makes moving around Los Santos feel far more natural.
