John and Audrey’s ride to the Cotswolds – Sunday 13th August 2023

Due to extensive roadworks on the A120 leaving Birchanger, our briefing will commence at 09:00 hrs at the first BP petrol station on the A10 by Buntingford, approx. 4 miles north from the A10/A120 RAB at Puckeridge. Our route this year is just under 200 miles so please ensure you are comfortable with this mileage before joining us.

We have arranged that our bikes can be parked on the yellow cross hatchings to the right of the fuel pumps as you enter the petrol station.

We will be riding in two groups. John’s group will depart first with Audrey’s and Stephen’s group leaving a few minutes later. This should ease the queue at the Buckingham Garden Centre. Do we have a volunteer to sweep for John’s group?

Those who would like .gpx route files for sat. nav. and/or Excel route for printing, should email John at john@reveillerrides.co.uk and these will be sent to you.

The distance from Buntingford to our coffee stop at Buckingham Garden Centre is 54 miles which we estimate should take approx. an hour and a half. The distance from Buckingham G.C., via the Charlbury Loop, to the Cotswolds Barn for lunch, is 50 miles. Our fuel stop will be on the return route at the Shell petrol station, by the A44/A361 roundabout just north of Chipping Norton, 13 miles from the Cotswolds Barn.

Having ridden the route, we discovered two major road closures on our return route; we have therefore decided to return via our outward route from Buckingham, Woburn and the A507 Birchanger. We estimate our return to Buntingford will be circa. 17:00 hrs.

We can’t think of a better way to spend a sunny Saturday so we hope you’ll join us but bring your wets just in case.

We look forward to having a great day.

Yesterday (7th August) Audrey Stephen Green and I rode Sunday’s route to check all was well for our Cotswolds Ride. Regretfully, a large portion of the road approaching Woburn Deer Park, the Deer Park itself and the link to Woburn High Street had been heavily asphalted.

In view of the current condition of these roads, we have no alternative but to bypass Woburn Deer Park.

Further asphalting has taken place on Linslade Road leaving Heath and Reach but this is a short stretch but particular care should be taken.

I have amended the outward .gpx route accordingly. Those who would like the revised outward .gpx route file for sat. nav. should email John at john@reveillerrides.co.uk and these will be sent to you.
