All,
This year we're changing the format to provide a more engaging day for all. The day will be focused on polishing the skills you need at walking/slow manoeuvres. With slow riding skills your overall riding improves with the confidence you gain. The aim of the day is to learn/improve skills. At the end of the day (1pm) we'll go to the Airfield Diner to treat ourselves.
* Venue: North Weald Airfield, Merlin Way, CM16 6HR - East/West Disused runway.
* Arrival time: 09:00 prompt for briefing - finish at 1pm.
* Cost: £0 per head - COMMITTEE ARE GIVING BACK TO THE MEMBERSHIP TO THANK THEM, SO COVERING THE COSTS OF HIRING THE VENUE AND PARTICIPATION.
* Bring water and snacks.
* Full tank of fuel.
* All riding with full safety gear.
Introduction/warm up Slow Race: Everyone gets involved in the slow race to start off.
1) Simulated Traffic Jam: WE don't want to sit in traffic, but in Essex it's part of everyday life. Do you feel your shoulders tighten up when you approach a jam! We'll help develop your confidence and approach them in a systematic way.
2) Counterbalance: Demonstrating how moving your upper body can help your balance while riding very slowly while turning.
3) Slalom: This exercise is designed to make you feel comfortable changing direction and balance the motorcycle while travelling at walking pace.
4) Staggered Slalom: Same as 3 but with cones offset to increase your skills while having some fun negotiating.
5) 'U' turn: Yes, the dreaded U turn is on the list of skills. With the counter balance skills you've already improved on you'll be in your element.
6) Pushing the bike (parking): Ride into a simulated parking bay, park the bike then walk it backwards into another bay - techniques shown to suit the individual. The most common time to drop the bike is while pushing into your garage!
7) Hill start: Best methods on controlling the pull away - yes, we know some have DCT gearboxes so their experts in this - You can borrow my CBF500 to try this.
8) Controlled stop: This exercise simulates stopping at a Give way/Stop line at a T juntion/roundabout. How many times have you stopped too short, or worse, over the line!
9) Figures of eight: With all your new skills and confidence you'll be showing off by now. Try them at different speeds to see where balance and momentum take over.
10) Emergency stop: How many of us advanced motorcyclists practise this? I know I don't do it enough. Slow speed stops building to higher speeds, building your technique and confidence.
Note: No one will pushed beyond their comfort zones on any of the events.
Please note: This is only open to our 2023 membership or new members joining.
Please confirm your attendance via email to - mickhewitt39@hotmail.com. If you don't receive confirmation email please re-issue - will be monitoring junk mail.
Note: Places are limited so first come first served.
Looking forward to seeing you - will be a good fun day.
Regards
The Training Team.
